Machine Monitoring System

For shops utilizing CNC production machinery, our Machine Monitoring System (MMS) allows automatic collection of machine productivity status right from the machine tool. In addition, the MMS can be used to automatically capture other discrete machinery states as long as there is an electrical signal available to monitor (for instance, spindle on/off, tool change, part count, machine error, etc.). Automatic data is collected via standard data acquisition devices placed within the machine tool. These devices connect to the Data Collection Terminal (which can either be a standard PC or a DLoG Touchscreen PC running the Machine Monitoring software), which time stamps and logs each event status as it occurs.

DLoG Data Collection and Machine Tool MonitoringCombining the Data Collection System (DCS) module with the MMS module, allows you to not only collect machine tool productivity data, but also allows you to manually record the reasons why a machine tool is out of production. For instance, the system can be configured so that a CYCLE STOP condition at the machine tool will automatically present a screen at the Data Collection Station requesting the operator to provide a reason for the STOP condition. In this way, shop managers can identify the reasons for bottlenecks on the shop floor (such as, waiting on parts/tools/ instructions, machine down, etc) and then take the appropriate corrective action.

DLoG Data Collection and Machine Tool MonitoringTwo reports are provided standard with the MMS: Real Time Status reports and Time-Line reports. Real time status reports show in real time the condition of each work center including its current state and the length of time it has been in that state. This provides shop foremen, manufacturing engineers, or other production management personnel with a quick but useful summary of the shop floor without having to leave their desk. Those machines that are idle, in setup, in production, or down can all be determined with one quick glance. As the status of a machine changes, the screen is updated in real-time with the latest information.

DLoG Data Collection and Machine Tool MonitoringTime-line reports provide historical time-line data for each machine, showing its condition and time in that condition for up to seven days of time. This report provides a real understanding of how a resource is being used; and more importantly, where production improvements can be made to reduce setup time, down time, & idle time. Shop managers can have this report generated automatically by setting a minimum efficiency or production level requirement on one or several machines. A Gant Chart and Pie summary will then automatically be generated for any 24-hour period in which the selected machine(s) fall below the targeted levels.

Due to its open design, any information logged in the MMS database can easily be retrieved by third-party report generation products and can be used to generate any custom report that the user requires, including Work Order Tracking & Status, Labor Reporting, and Machine Utilization and Historical Analysis.
